Turning Torso, MalmöPhotos of a twisted skyscraper, by Stefan StenuddThe Turning Torso skyscraper in Malmö, Sweden, is based on a sculpture by its architect, Santiago Calatrava, but it was not his idea to turn it into a building. That came from Johnny Örbäck, who was the CEO of the company later to have it built. When the costs almost doubled what was budgeted, Örbäck had to resign. But the building was completed — all 54 stories and 190 meters. It opened on August 27, 2005. I took most of the photos below in the weeks before the opening.
I am quite fond of this odd structure in the Malmö cityscape. I wouldn't want to live in one of its apartments, though. You can't open the windows. Stefan Stenudd
